ABOUT ME Over a period of twenty years I studied in the studio of Efim Frumin, a noted artist located in Houston, Texas. Efim Frumin was born in Odessa, Russia, in 1934. He was a graduate of the Hermitage Academy of Fine Arts in (then) Leningrad and now St. Petersburg, Russia. He settled in Houston in 1974 and was known for his lavish Old Masters style that emphasizes the application of semi-transparent glazes to achieve subtlety and luminosity. MY PORTRAITS I love to do portraits of all kinds: distinguished people, casual family pictures, children and even dogs. I am reasonably priced and I usually work from your photos although I often take photos myself. Portrait painting adds something that is just not available in any photo. Good portrait painting can infuse an image with life and energy and depth that a photo will generally lack. This website is devoted to painting but it is much more… it is about dreams and vision and saving a smile and a glance forever. I have painted from blurry photos (even someone’s beloved deceased dog) but I do a lot better when I also take the photographs myself. MY PRICING Pricing depends on what the clients wants i.e. how many figures, is the whole body in play with hands and feet. But for reference I do an head and shoulder oil painting on a 11″ by 14″ panel of the face and shoulders for $350 and that is satisfaction guaranteed. I also do pen and ink sketches. I have done a sketch of an attorney at work in the courtroom and I have done special sketches for special occasions (with and without water color). Depending on the situation it would probably cost in the neighborhood of $300 but more if my attendance is required.
