CHRYSCAPITAL, IS IN TALKS TO RAISE $350 MILLION TO TAP THE HIGH-GROWTH EMERGING
MARKETS IN ASIA, INCLUDING INDIA, INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA.

NEW DELHI: Brahmal Vasudevan, a former managing director at private equity major
ChrysCapital, is in talks to raise $350 million to tap the high-growth emerging
markets in Asia, including India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Vasudevan left ChrysCapital earlier this year to return home to Malaysia to
launch his own firm Creador along with six senior executives.

Of the $350-million corpus, as much as $100 million has come from the fund’s top
management and high net-worth families from Indonesia.

The partners are now in talks with limited partners in the US to raise the
balance corpus, according to a person with direct knowledge of the development.

The fund is expected to invest in a gamut of sectors including financial
services, consumer durables, pharma and media, primarily across India and
Indonesia and then in Malaysia.

Creador will initially have offices in Chennai, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, he
added. When contacted, Vasudevan declined comment on the fundraising plans.

With offices across three countries, partners will be responsible for
identifying investment opportunities, conducting diligence and providing
strategic counsel.

Vasudevan joined ChrysCapital in August 2000. He had previously worked as
marketing director at ASTRO, a multi-channel DBS pay-TV operator in Southeast
Asia. Prior to that, he was associated with British American Tobacco (BAT) and
The Boston Consulting Group. An MBA from Harvard Business School, Vasudevan was
ChrysCapital founder Ashish Dhawan’s classmate at the institute.

Fund-raising in India started gaining momentum this year as the recovery in the
domestic economy gathered pace.
