GREEN CARD BACKLOG INCREASED BY 8% IN MARCH

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE IMMIGRANT VISA BACKLOG WAS AT 351,624 CASES LAST MONTH

APR 16, 2024

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Department of State’s National Visa Center (NVC) saw an increase in the
immigrant visa (IV) backlog, from 326,415 in February to 351,624 in March— an 8%
increase.

The number of green card applicants whose cases were documentarily complete and
ready to be scheduled for an interview increased, from 374,532 in February to
404,459 (an 8% increase). A case that is considered “documentarily complete” is
a case in which all the required forms and documents have been submitted and
accepted by the NVC, and therefore the case is ready for interview scheduling.

The number of people scheduled for green card interviews also saw an increase —
52,835 in March compared to 48,117 interviews in February.
