Create a course
Choose your languages, then add your terms and definitions as questions and
answers - either import from another site or spreadsheet, or add questions
manually


Study your terms
Start with learn mode to learn your new terms in the mode of your choice:
Flashcards, multiple choice, typing, listening & more


Come back to practice
Once you've learned your terms, they will be assigned a 'practice due' time.
Return to Memory to practice and stay ahead.
Tip: Set a notification for us to remind you when it's time to practice


Do I need to create my own course?



Creating your own course is the best way to get results from Memory. Memory is
specifically designed for those who wish to create courses and learn terms they
wish to study with.

You don't have to, though. You can also use any of the existing pre-built
courses which have been created by other users and which are set to public mode.
Browse the courses page to see what's available.

Can I import my course from another site?



Yes, after creating a course you can use the 'Import' mode from the
create-course screen to import either from a spreadsheet, export or raw text
from another site.

You can also export your course for usage on other sites at any time using the
'export' mode from the create-course screen.

How long does it take to get started?



You can try out Memory by creating a course with some test questions and answers
and study it in learn mode in minutes.

For a basic study set with many questions and levels, allow 20 minutes to create
the course and try out the various modes.

Does Memory offer spaced repetition?



Long term learning and space repetition is the core learning style of Memory.
This enables you to learn and retain information over a long period of time. You
can also adjust your algorithm settings, e.g. setting it to 'Exam cram mode'
will enable you to practice and study your information quickly with short
repetition intervals.

What's different about Memory?



Memory offers several study modes. Unlike other flashcard apps, we offer study
modes such as multiple-choice, listening, speaking, complete the sentence and
smart mode.

We offer classrooms, leaderboards, a fully configurable learning algorithm, many
settings, the ability to add images and custom audio to your questions and
flashcards.

Memory is a modern (launched 2019) approach to online learning.

Is Memory suitable for schools?



Yes, schools can use Memory for free with unlimited students. Create a
classroom, add your courses, invite students and monitor their progress.

There is no charge for schools - you can create classrooms, as many courses as
you wish, and conduct live classes at any time. You can also use classrooms to
add students so they can study your courses in their own time.

Is there a subscription option to unlock more features?



No, all features of Memory are offered for free. Memory is a free alternative to
paid self-study applications. Memory is non-commercial - we don't charge
subscriptions, advertise or give your data to other companies.

That doesn't mean Memory is a lesser solution - Memory is fully featured with
automatic audio, images, various study modes, configurable algorithms,
leaderboards, classrooms and more.

In fact, a common criticism of Memory is that there are too many features and
buttons - but you can use as few or as many as you wish.

Is there a mobile app for Memory available?



Whilst Memory isn't available from the appstore or Google play, you can visit
memory.com in your browser and add it to the homescreen to obtain app-style
functionality.

more. Practice mode ensures you are always up to date. For multiple choice mode,
Memory features AI based answer generation to catch you out like a real exam.

Adjust various options to suit your learning style, including multiple choice
counts, the order of questions, audio auto-play, the number of questions per
session and more.

CLASSROOMS - INVITE STUDENTS AND MONITOR PROGRES

Create a classroom - they are completely free. Add your students or import from
Google Classroom. You can then monitor their progress on your courses and see
real time stats and reports.

Set a notification for us to remind you when it's time to practice. Create
folders to keep everything together and share with your friends or students.

View reports and stats - to monitor your own progress or your students'
Also, earn XP, awards, badges and climb leaderboards to compare progress against
other users.


AVAILABLE LEARNING MODES


FLASHCARDS


Flashcards are a good way to learn fast. Test and improve your knowledge by
reading the front of the card, deciding what the answer is in your head (or say
it aloud as some users do) and flip the card and tell us if you were correct or
not. The more often you get them correct, the less you will need to see them.



SMART


Smart mode is a combination of all modes which are intelligently rotated based
on your learning ability. If you are not sure where to start, try smart mode.
Smart mode initially starts off with easy modes such as typing and will advance
to more difficult modes such as typing and speaking as you learn questions.



PRACTICE


Practice mode is used to revise the questions you have already learned. Every
time you answer a question, our system marks a date for reviewal depending on
your performance. When questions are due for practice, your dashboard will show
you all due questions.



MANUAL


Select precisely how you wish to learn: Choose your question type, answer type,
languages and which way around you wish to answer the question. Manual learning
mode gives you full control over your practice experience.



WEIGHTED CUSTOM


Weighted custom mode allows you to choose any balance of modes. Drag the sliders
to set the frequency that you wish to see each mode. Custom mode lets you learn
exactly how you want. To get started, select custom mode, choose User Settings,
click advanced, and adjust the sliders for question times.



MULTIPLE


Multiple choice is a good way to learn and practice fast. The answers are
intelligently generated based on the topics of your course and its content.
Simply select the correct answer to learn and test your memory.



TYPING


Typing mode is a great method to learn rapidly. From our research, by typing
words, you will remember them faster than using multiple choice alone



TEST / EXAM


Test / exam mode enables you to test your progress. Questions will be asked, but
you will not find out if you got them correct or not until the end, at which
point you will get a summary card showing your progress. Repeat tests regularly
to see your performance improve with time.



LISTENING


Listening mode is great for practicing your listening ability and speed to
translate answers. Listen to the audio and select or type the correct answer.
For language courses only.



SPEAKING


Speaking mode is to help your pronunciation and memory recall. With dictate, you
should say what you read and hear. With translate you must read the phrase in
your own language, then say the answer aloud in the opposite language.



SPEAKING & LISTENING


This mode is a combination of speaking and listening, and will allow you to
practice both in rotation.



GAPS


Gaps mode automatically extracts keywords such as nouns, verbs and adjectives
from your questions. You are then asked to fill in the gaps in the sentences
from an appropriate word bank. This tests and improves your vocabulary
retention.



MEMORY MOBILE



You can use Memory on any mobile phone by visiting memory.com in your mobile
browser.

Use the option 'add to home screen' to install it as a home-screen application.
All of your data remains synchronised with your account to allow you to practice
anywhere at any time.
