 * Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Kicks Off
    * COVID-19 Concerns in 2020 Must Not Reduce Prostate Cancer Screenings

   September 1, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Men’s Health Network (MHN) continues its push to raise
prostate health awareness for men of all ages during Prostate Cancer
   Awareness Month this September.

This year, concerns about COVID-19 have reduced screening rates, raising the
specter of higher numbers of cancer cases in the future.

 * In Remembrance of Congressman John Lewis
   July 20, 2020

On behalf of Men's Health Network's staff, volunteers and advisors we join
all Americans in mourning the loss of Georgia's Congressmen and "The
Conscience of the U.S. Congress", John Lewis who died from pancreatic cancer
at age 80 on July 17, 2020 after a long, storied and exemplary record of
service to our country as a tireless fighter, advocate and spokesperson for
   equal rights for Americans.

Men's Health Network worked with Congressman Lewis on several projects,
including the passage of National Men's Health Week in 1994 and community
   events in his Congressional district.

In a statement issued today, Jean Bonhomme, MD, MPH, President of the
National Black Men's Health Network said, "John Lewis was a man of
extraordinary courage who met even armed violence with nonviolence and racial
hatred with love.  Perhaps a fitting legacy to his loss from illness might be
a renewed interest in addressing the health issues facing men and boys."

"Fondly remembering Representative John Lewis, a never wavering activist and
statesman whose legacy will live on. His temperament and steadfastness will
continue to encourage this and the next generation to pursue true equality
for people of color,"  said Judy Seals-Togbo, MSW, Men's Health Network
Tri-State area: Arkansas, Mississippi & Tennessee.

 * Men's Health Month Gains Virtual Success
    * Awareness Period Celebrated 26thAnniversary of Men's Health Week, and was
key to helping fight the spread of COVID-19

   July 1, 2020

WASHINGTON – Men's Health Month, the annual awareness period dedicated to the
health and wellness of men and boys, came to a close this week after a
successful 30 days that reached millions of people around the globe through
education activities, health screenings, social media, and other events. But
the push for men's health awareness won't end in June! Men's Health Network
(MHN) continues to advocate for better health outcomes for men, boys, and
   their families throughout the year.

This June celebrated the 26th anniversary of National Men's Health Week
(NMHW), passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton in
1994. There are over 400 proclamations from governors, municipal leaders, and
Native American communities posted on the Men's Health Month website.

President Donald Trump issued a statement recognizing Men's Health Week from
the White House, and Congress, led by Congressional Men's Health Caucus
co-chairs Donald Payne Jr. (D-NJ) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) passed a
   Resolution doing the same.

"With the start of a new decade being an opportunity for a fresh start, we
encouraged communities to reevaluate their personal health and men's health,"
said Ana Fadich Tomsic, VP of MHN."With the onset of COVID-19, the country
was forced to take a different approach to Men's Health Month. We are very
encouraged by the amount of participation via social media and online
awareness during this month. Although we could not hold in-person events, we
were able to create a new normal and encourage men to take that step, whether
it is via a telehealth appointment or talking more to family and friends."

TALKING ABOUT MEN'S HEALTH

 * Public Health in Action – A Silent Health Crisis
Of all the things in the fields of both public health and healthcare that
pique my interest and attention most, it’s health disparities, specifically
the numbers 5 and 7. In a country as productive and innovative as ours, it’s
a particularly vexing reality check whenever I’m faced with those two
numbers, which I’ve listed below along with their respective contexts.

 * Are UTIs getting harder to treat?
Over prescription of antibiotics for infections has been a continuous issue
in the healthcare community, even after the CDC declared antibiotic
resistance as a serious health threat in the last few years. Researchers have
called for a further intervention to stop unnecessary use of antibiotics, who
are not likely to benefit from taking them. Treating these cases with
antibiotics increases the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, a
   growing global health concern.

 * I laughed at my thinning hair
After looking in the mirror and I saw, for the thousandth time, the stealthy
retreat of my hairline and the patch of thinning hair that spoke this message
to me: You are getting older, J. For years, I noticed the gradual change in
my hairline with a bit of dread.
