FREE SAMPLE PRINTABLE: ARABIC ALPHABET SEARCH

I’ve been working on a new Arabic Alphabet Search printable and I think would be
good to get feedback on it before the final release, so a free sample is now up
on my Teachers Pay Teachers store!

This printable is intended for use with children who are learning to recognise
the Arabic alphabet. On each page, a jumble of alphabets is shown, along with
the letter(s) to be found. Depending on the difficulty level of the page (hard,
medium or easy), the letter may appear in its isolated, beginning, middle or
ending forms (or all of them!).

Pre-writers may use the page with Do-a-Dot markers, stickers or counters, while
older children can circle the letters found. You could even reuse this page for
multiple children if you use sheet protectors! The alphabets included in this
sample are ا and ج, in 2 difficulty levels: easy and hard. I am undecided on the
medium difficulty level, so the printable may be updated later.

PRINTABLE: ARABIC ALPHABET ANIMALS DOT PAINT AND COLOUR

It’s been a long while and I’m trying to get back into the groove of creating
printables again. I realise I’ve had this printable on my Teachers Pay Teachers
store for a while now, but never posted about it on the blog.



Similar to our Arabic Numerals Q-tip Painting Cards, this dot painting activity
is designed for preschoolers who have been introduced to Arabic alphabets and
who may not be writing yet (pre-writers). By filling in the dots, they gain
visual recognition of Arabic alphabets as well as the correct stroke order of
writing them. Each card is made up of:

 1. a letter (in its isolated form) to fill in with markers or Q-tips dipped in
    paint;
 2. the name of the letter, e.g. sheen; and
 3. a picture of the animal, with its beginning sound matching the letter, to
    colour in!

If you’re new to dot painting, you may be wondering, so how do I use this
printable? You will need cotton swabs a.k.a. Q-tips, and some paint (tempera or
poster paint recommended). Dip the tip into the paint, then press it onto each
dot. The use of this printable is not limited to Q-tips! You may want to let the
child experiment with glitter glue or tiny jewel stickers, or simply colour in
the dots with markers. I recommend printing out the pages on cardstock or
thicker paper of at least 100 gsm.

OPENING OF TPT STORE AND LAUNCH OF ARABIC ALPHABET – ANIMALS TRACE AND COLOUR

This mini workbook consists of alphabet tracing and colouring pages intended for
use with children who are learning to read and write the Arabic alphabet. Each
page is made up of:

 1. a letter (in its isolated form) in large font to colour in or decorate;
 2. letters in dotted font to trace;
 3. the name of an animal beginning with the letter, to colour or trace; and
 4. a picture of the animal to colour in!

CURRENT FAVOURITE READS (AUGUST 2015)

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS FIRST BIG BOOK OF SPACE

Out of all the homeschool themes we’ve had thus far, the one H has been most
fascinated with is SPACE! Long after the theme was over, we’re still exploring
space-related stuff from time to time. Recently she said, “Let’s learn about
dwarf planets! And shooting stars!” So I took out this book and we did just
that. And more. We’re both enjoying this book immensely. The visuals are
fantastic to look at and the text is simple enough for her to read on her own
(except for the funky planet names). As an adult reader, the depth of
information leaves something to be desired. Though I reckon it’s just right for
8-year-olds and under.



25 BLESSED PROPHETS

A Muslim kid can never have too many prophet storybooks, right? After completing
the Prophet Stories series, I was on the lookout for a book or series that had
stories of all 25 prophets mentioned in the Qur’an. This title fit the bill!
Each story focuses on one prophet and the length is just right for a bedtime
story. Every page is illustrated, but without any people. Some children may find
this confusing because it makes the illustrations look incomplete. In Prophet
Ibrahim’s story, when King Namrud threw him into the fire, the kiddo asked me
why there was only a fire shown. “Where’s the king? Where’s Prophet Ibrahim?”
>.< Other than that, she enjoys the stories and remembers them well, perhaps
because the language used is at her comprehension level. Children aged seven and
up would be able to read this easily by themselves.


MATILDA

Who doesn’t love Matilda? The kiddo’s been enraptured by the delightful,
out-of-this-world tale. I’ve been introducing chapter books to her, and many of
Roald Dahl’s books are great for this purpose! Alhamdulillah, for her birthday
we were blessed with a collection of Roald Dahl books with larger print for
beginning readers. Now she asks to read Matilda every night. We manage about
half a chapter at every sitting. Her opinion on Matilda’s family? “What a crazy
family!”

REVIEW: FAATIMAH AND AHMED – WE’RE LITTLE MUSLIMS

Lately, I’ve been impressed by the quality of English-language picture books
written for young Muslims. Faatimah and Ahmed – We’re Little Muslims is one of
them! Sis Razeena from Read Little Muslims very kindly sent me a copy to review.

The book begins with an introduction to the titular pair of siblings, which
leads me to believe that Faatimah and Ahmed is meant be a series, building upon
the characters with each book. I certainly hope so!

As the story goes on, Ahmed relates to Faatimah what he has learned about the
life of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW. This is where the young reader gets a
concise biography of the Prophet SAW, along with on-point illustrations. I
especially like this page; it’s handy for introducing the Islamic calendar
months to kids who are old enough to grasp the concept of time:

Faatimah and Ahmed serves its purpose wonderfully as a introduction to seerah
for young Muslims. I wish I had this book when I first introduced a
then-4-year-old H to the seerah of Prophet Muhammad SAW. I believe even kids
familiar with the life story of the Prophet SAW would appreciate the story being
retold by the adorable brother-sister pair, who are children like themselves!

At 34 pages long, the book may be too long to read to your tots in one sitting.
It’s the perfect length for preschoolers and up though. The lively, colourful
illustrations will definitely hold the attention of your child. I recently found
six-year-old H trying to draw Faatimah, with the book propped up in front of
her. She only does this with books or characters she really enjoys.

After we read Faatimah and Ahmed a few times, I asked H which was her favourite
part of the book. “The camels! They’re the cutest!” >.< Camels are currently her
favourite animal, ever since she rode one in Makkah recently.

I’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve read Faatimah and Ahmed over the
past few weeks. We have also continued the fun and learning with the free
Faatimah and Ahmed activity book. The mazes and dot-to-dot activities in
particular were enjoyed very much.

I would highly recommend Faatimah and Ahmed – We’re Little Muslims to parents,
grandparents, and educators who wish to plant the seed of love for the Prophet
(SAW) in their little ones’ hearts. It’s a book that will inspire young Muslims
to find out more about our beloved Prophet (SAW) and follow his noble path. If
you’re looking to start your child’s Islamic bookshelf, this book certainly
deserves a place on it!

CURRENT FAVOURITE READS (APR 2015)

PROPHET STORIES

We are currently on book 8 out of 11 in this series and the 6-year-old is
decidedly in LOVE with these books. I guess the lively, cartoonish illustrations
is the main attraction for her! The language used is also suitable to her level
of reading compared to other series of prophet stories we’ve read thus far, with
shorter sentences and simpler words she can (mostly) read herself. I actually
hesitated before buying the set due to the price, but it was a wise purchase.
She’s gaining a lot of understanding from these books. How do I know? Because
she asks questions as we read! ^.^




NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC READERS: PLANET EARTH COLLECTION

The National Geographic Readers have been catching my eye each time I browse the
local bookstores. Since I’ve been meaning to introduce the kiddo to non-fiction
books suitable for her reading level, we picked up this title. I have to admit,
it was the breathtaking photos (typical in NatGeo publications) that impressed
us first. Non-fiction titles for kids without infographics or pictures would be
pretty boring after all. This title turned out to be a hit, and she’s even
learnt some scientific words from it masha Allah. She’s especially interested in
volcanoes right now!




I WONDER HOW MANY

If you plan to introduce your preschooler to the 99 names of Allah, this title
should be in your library! I picked it up on a whim at a book fair and was
pleasantly surprised by the quality of the book as a whole. The story is written
in rhyme and a delight to read aloud. We’re referring back to this book quite
often these days as we learn Allah’s 99 names, one at a time. I would also
recommend other books by the same author and publisher; the content is pretty
impressive and we’ve been enjoying them very much!
