Fåfänga.



Ett projekt om vårt omättliga bekräftelsebehov

Åttio procent av oss svenskar anser sig vara fåfänga. Och har därmed ett fokus
på det intryck man gör, vars belöning är andras bekräftelse.

Jag driver projektet Den nya tidens fåfänga för att fånga hur vi med hjälp av
utseende, agerande eller ägodelar söker vinna omvärldens erkännande. Jag vill
förstå vilka negativa konsekvenser det leder till och hitta metoder som kan
dämpa fåfängan. För när betydelsen av andras åsikter minskar, ökar känslan av
frihet.

Det är ett projekt, en bok, på sikt en film. Men mest ett uppvaknande. Välkommen
att vakna med mig.

Svenska Dagbladets artikelserie Idag hanterar olika teman som är av intresse för
läsarna. Förra veckan gick en ny serie igång som behandlar fåfänga gestaltat
genom ett antal personers liv och syn på ämnet. I den första artikeln av tre

IMAGE VIKTIGARE ÄN UPPLEVELSE

Som ett led i arbetet att förstå fåfänga gjorde jag en undersökning ihop med det
internationella undersökningsföretaget Dynata. Vi ställde 1000 svenskar 41
frågor om fåfänga och bekräftelse. Där lärde jag mig att 68% skulle strunta i
att bestiga Mount Everest, köra Vasaloppet eller göra något annat spektakulärt
om de inte fick berätta för någon…

DOPAMINETS TILLFÄLLIGA DÖD

Signalsubstansen dopamin driver oss framåt. Den är förväntansstyrd, ett
belöningshormon. När vi suktar efter t ex snus, kaffe, alkohol, spel och sociala
medier kickar den in. För att bättre förstå inte minst det sistnämnda genomgick
jag i november en veckolång dopaminfasta i ett samarbete med Patrik Wincent,
terapeut och beroendeexpert. I jakten på bekräftelse sitter…
