ANNAPURNA MOUNTAIN : WORLD'S 10TH HIGHEST MOUNTAIN

The nature has amazingly gifted the Annapurna Mountains. Perhaps, it may be
impossible to explain only the ultimate climbers could experience the reality of
these ever shining mountains. The Sanskrit word Anna which means food and Purna
which stands for filled also offers the meaning of everlasting food. In
addition, it is the God of food according to Hindu mythology.

Annapurna Massif is in Gandaki Zone of Nepal. These peaks are very closer to
Annapurna Base camp and near to Pokhara city. The highest peak is Annapurna I
which is 8091 m from the sea level. Many mountains around this area. There are
13 peaks with over 7000 meters and 16 peaks having over 6000 meters.

The Annapurna mountain has linked with Kali Gandaki Gorge in the west whereas on
the north and east with the Marshyangdi river and south has connected with
Pokhara Valley. The Annapurna I (8090 m) is the 10th highest peak in the world.

In 1950, the French peak climber who did his first expedition with the team on
Annapurna I. His name was Maurice Herzog able to make his Fresh expedition
summit successful ever.

This entire massif has the protection with 7629 square kilometers under
Annapurna Conservation Area and this is the largest conservation area in Nepal.
This conservation area is a destination for thousands of trekkers in the world
including Annapurna Circuit Trek, Annapurna Sanctuary, Poon Hill Trek, and Mardi
Himal Trek.

In 2012, Mingma Sherpa with his 12 members did the successful summit of
Annapurna I. However, two climbers Samuli Mansikka of Finland and Pemba Sherpa
of Nepal could not sustain and finally lost their lives while ascending after
the summit.

Around 43 trekkers died just because of snowstorms and avalanches around
Annapurna area in October 2014. This was the worst trekking disaster ever.

Overall, climbing to Annapurna mountains require special training and local
support of Sherpa gear along with a great immunity of body and courage.

I recently completed the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Annapurna Mountain Treks
company and I was so pleased with the experience I had during the trek. I
contacted Mr.Sanjib via email for the information about the trek and he provided
me with all the details within a short period of time.

Our guide for the trek was Jhalak who was very friendly and so professional in
his work. He led us on our journey with much more entertainment on the way.
Potters were also amazing. They helped me a lot during the trek. I got to know
them better during the journey through funny interactions with each other.
Everything was perfectly managed by the GK company.

I had the best accommodation and transportation service. The most beautiful
moment of the trek was reaching the destination after so many struggles and fun

Trekking in Nepal with Annapurna Mountain Treks, and Jhalak Simkhada in
particular, was one o the greatest experiences of my life. During both my last
visit to Nepal and a previous visit in 2013, Jhalak delivered, again and again,
even going so far as to carry me on his back when I injured my knee and was
unable to walk out. Both he and the other staff always maintained a happy,
welcoming attitude that improved the experience tenfold! I would gladly
recommend AMT to any intrepid voyager looking to explore this beautiful country
without hesitation.

major treks, some even twice. Annapurna Mountain Treks is a company I always use
to book trekking in Nepal. On almost all of them, Jhalak was my lead guide. What
can I say about him? You will not find a better person to guide you. He is
extremely knowledgeable about the treks, he is very personable and fun and
speaks very good English. It is like having your big brother with you, feeling
very, very safe and protected. Jhalak is very respected in the trekking
community and he is much liked by the porters and other Sherpas. He treats
everybody with the utmost respect, is fair, and is very concerned about the
guest and staff’s safety. I totally trust his decisions in every situation.

Jhalak is a family man, a respected Brahmin in his village who works hard to
provide education for his children and maintain a good home.
I have always asked for Jhalak to be my guide and was very happy to see his
smiling face greet me in Kathmandu on my arrival. I am very happy I met this
exceptional human being.
