CHRISTMAS is quickly approaching, and shoppers are on the hunt for the best gift
prices.

As parents rush to buy Christmas gifts for their kids, they are in search for
the best deals, especially on toys.

COSTCO CHEAPS OUT

Holiday shopping can be expensive, so it's important to save money where you
can.

In its fourth quarter earnings call, the chief financial officer of Costco
discussed the price of certain items that will affect holiday shoppers.

For those looking for deals on items like toys, Costco may not be the best
option.

During the earnings call the CFO of Costco, Richard Galanti, was asked if it is
approaching the holidays any differently this year.

In response, he said: "And in terms of how we're approaching it, we're
approaching it aggressively in terms of, you know, having stuff to sell to the
member."

"But we want to be out, too. Typically, this is nothing different here."

He continues: "You know, even on things like toys, we'll bring in a few things,
you know, in the last couple of weeks before Christmas that if they don't sell
through, we're not at risk of having to mark them down dramatically because
they're not unique just to Christmas."

'I'LL LEAVE' WITH NOTHING AS TARGET SHOPPERS BAFFLED AT SELF-CHECKOUT PROCESS

The first key is to look at the price tag, as the numbers after the decimal can
be very telling.

For example, price tags that end in .99 signal regular price.

The deals are on price tags that end with .97 or unusual numbers like .39, .49,
or .79.

The .97 means the item is on clearance or on sale.

These numbers signal special deals from the manufacturer.

Additionally, a price tag ending in zero, such as $10.00, indicates a manager
markdown, and that they hope to sell the items quickly.

A second key for saving money at Costco is to shop in-person.

While online shopping may grant you access to a greater variety of items, items
purchases in-store at Costco are almost always cheaper.

For example, a pair of pants listed online for $29.99 may cost $27.99 in-person.

While the price difference isn't major, it can add up.

A third key to save money is to shop the back of the store first, as the front
typically has discounted items.

This may sound like a good thing, but Costco knows that shoppers have an empty
cart and haven't yet made purchases, so shoppers are likely to make impulse
decisions in this section.
