Rich and Co. discuss the indictment of former Marine Daniel Penny on today’s
episode of The Editors.

“What bothers me,” said Charlie, “is that he has been vilified in the way that
he has, and the man that he unfortunately ended up killing has been lionized in
the way that he has.”

Charlie is frustrated, as the media have twisted the narrative on this tragedy
in misleading ways. “We have moved so far away, not only from the facts of the
case, but what we know about the characters of the individuals involved, as to
make the whole thing cartoonish.”

He paints the picture clearly, saying that “this mentally disturbed man on the
subway is cast in the press as a friendly Michael Jackson impersonator, as if
those are the salient facts about him. Meanwhile, Daniel Penny is cast as some
white-supremacist vigilante, neither of which seem to be true.”

Will Penny be convicted? Our panelists have surprisingly varied answers. Listen
below to hear the rest of the discussion.
