(WKBT) — A 33-year-old Holmen motorcyclist died in a collision with a car Monday afternoon after trying to elude Onalaska police at speeds of up to 100 mph, according to the city’s police department. An officer noticed motorcyclist Tou Yia Lor speeding southbound on Hwy. 35/Second Avenue South near Main Street shortly before 1 p.m., according to an Onalaska police news release. The police report listed the following scenario for the incident, which blocked Oak Avenue South for several hours: * The officer attempted to catch up to the motorcyclist, who had entered the northbound lane of Hwy. 35 against traffic briefly to enter the Kwik Trip parking lot at Hwy. 35 and Oak Forest Drive. * The motorcyclist exited on Third Avenue South and stopped at a stop sign at Oak Forest Drive before turning left onto Oak Forest Drive. The motorcyclist slowed to a stop at Oak Avenue South. * At the intersection, the officer told the motorcyclist, through the squad’s window, to pull over. * The motorcyclist turned right onto Oak Avenue South and slowed at the curve, seemingly indicating compliance. * However, after negotiating the curve, the motorcyclist accelerated at a high rate of speed. * The officer accelerated briefly, but as the motorcycle began to disappear from view, the officer pulled over and notified dispatch he was not pursuing the motorcycle, which he estimated was traveling up to 100 mph. * The officer observed the motorcycle hit a 2018 Hyundai Tucson that was stopped in the roadway waiting to turn left onto Domke Street. The officer drove to the scene and began checking for injuries. * The motorcyclist had been ejected from the motorcycle, and paramedics who arrived at the scene said he was dead. * The 50-year-old Holmen woman who had been driving the Hyundai was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Passengers in the Hyundai were a 49-year-old woman and a 17-year-old female, both of Onalaska. Police did not release the women’s names. Given the severity of the accident and injuries, the Onalaska Police Department asked the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Unit to help with the investigation, as is common in such cases. Assisting Onalaska police besides the state patrol were Onalaska Fire and Rescue, La Crosse County Emergency Services, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, the La Crosse County Medical Examiner’s Office, Holmen Police Department, Onalaska Public Works and Don’s Towing and Repair.
