My goal is to deliver to my clients the best hip-hop mixes that they've ever
had. Period. If you want professional quality, I'm your man. Notable credits
include Hitman Holla and Anthony Russo.
I'm an audio engineer with over 4 years of professional experience working as
one of the in-house engineers at Suburban Pro Studios in St. Louis, Missouri;
where I've worked with many native artists including standouts like Anthony
Russo and MTV Wild'n Out's Hitman Holla. I specialize in and primarily work with
Hip-Hop/Rap, but I also have clients within the R&B and Pop genres as well.
My philosophy is that mixing is an art form. Not only is it a technical art, but
it's also a creative one too. A mix can make or break a song. A good mix can
turn an "ok" song into a "great" song if it has potential. All it takes is a
talented engineer to bring it out. And that's me.
I'm passionate about my work. And I believe that ALL artists; whether you're a
major artist with a big name or somebody who's just starting out and recording
songs in your bedroom, need an engineer in their corner who works hard to help
give their music a sound that he or she can be proud of. It's important. And I
can be THAT guy for you!

til 11pm, working! Long hours followed by great results is what you get from

When ever I'm in town and need a song mixed, I go to Dominique. He is a

i always recorded myself and mixed my own stuff, never liked the way anyone
else would do my vocals until i met dom. now i would much rather spend my
money here, always a good time and dom is always happy to help you get the
song just how you want.

INTERVIEW WITH DOMINIQUE MOODY
1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?
2. A: Various songs and projects for my clients at Suburban Pro Studios.
3. Q: Analog or digital and why?
4. A: I'll say that good, quality analog outboard gear is definitely important
during the recording process. But during the mixing process, not so much.
It's all about taste.
5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
6. A: I promise to do my best to give you the best quality work that I can.
7. Q: What do you like most about your job?
8. A: Making dope records. It's fun.
9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
10. A: That anybody with a laptop and a cracked version of ProTools can do it
lol.
11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
12. A: I always ask my clients what their vision is for their record(s),
sonically. I feel it's important for an artist and their engineer to be on
the same page creatively.
13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
14. A: I started off as a producer making beats, around 2008. In 2010 I started
taking production seriously and started selling my beats on Soundclick. In
order to sell more beats, I realized that I needed to learn how to mix my
beats so that they would sound cleaner and more professional. That's how I
got into engineering. Eventually I realized I liked engineering more than
making beats, so in 2012 I started to focus more on being an engineer.
Through an internship at my local community college I landed a gig at
Suburban Pro Studios in St. Louis, MO in 2013. And I've been here ever
since.
15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
16. A: I'd say 85% of my clients are rappers.
17. Q: What's your strongest skill?
18. A: My ability to listen.
19. Q: What do you bring to a song?
20. A: I do my best to bring my clients ideas that sonically take songs to the
next level. Mixing is a creative function as well as a technical one.
Mixing is an ART.
21. Q: What's your typical work process?
22. A: When I've been given a mix to do, the first thing that I do is make
edits or do any "clean up" work to organize the files in the ProTools
session. I do this is to make the mixing process faster and more efficient.
Secondly if time allows, I like to do a rough balancing of the levels
before I start the actual mix. This is in order for me to draw a mental
"road map" of where I want to take the mix. And then after that, I start on
the mix itself.
23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
24. A: At the studio I work at, we have two ProTools 12 HD rooms with various
mics and pieces of outboard gear. LOTS of plugins!
25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
26. A: As a full-time audio engineer, my day to day work mainly consists of
recording and mixing records.
