Cuba
Cuba
U.S. citizens still need to jump through a few hoops to visit Cuba, but as
visitors from around the world know, this island offers some amazing
opportunities for cultural exchange. Havana is a mix of old-world architecture
and of-the-moment culture. Head out of the capital city to the small town of
Trinidad to see more Spanish colonial architecture. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage
Site and a fantastic home base for a visit to the Valley of the Sugar Mills, a
pocket of land that formerly served as the center of Cuba’s sugar industry.

 * We were plesantly surprised with the Pullman. There were no shortages, always
had hot water, plenty to eat, clean, service was excellant. We arrived Sept
30th and departed Oct 7th. We celebrated our 49th anniversary on Oct 4th, the
whole purpose of going that time of year. the only disappointment was they
didn't do anything for our anniversary, no bottle of wine, no fruit basket,
no dinner on the beach but thats ok, everything else was great, the beach,
our room, the entertainment, the food and the staff.

 * Staff was amazing. The food available was very good. Selection is minimal but
you will not starve. Spoke to an entertainer Yacel, who was very polite and
spoke with us for a bit. He made an effort to speak English with us and did a
very good job. It is people like him that we keep coming back as he and so
many other staff are just like him, very friendly and make our visit so
   pleasant.

Lombok
Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara
If it were located anywhere else in the world, Lombok would be on everyone’s
bucket list. But because it’s just east of Bali, fewer people have heard of its
secluded coves, endless string of cream-colored beaches, and waterfalls crashing
through its impossibly lush foliage. Fine with us, because that means it’s also
less crowded. You can spot wild macaques in the trees of Baun Pusak or float
with the green and hawksbill turtles around Gili Meno without feeling like
there’s a line behind you. This Indonesian island has a high point that Bali
can’t match: Mount Rinjani, an active volcano with a massive lake inside its
caldera. An early morning hike lets you watch the sun rise over the sea.
