Dec. 16, 2021 (CityNews) By Claire Fenton and Kier Junos Posted Dec 17, 2021, 10:47AM PST. Last Updated Dec 17, 2021, 10:48AM PST. SUMMARY * Once installed, TransLink will be the first transit system in Canada to install braille signage * The braille bus stop signs will contain both Unified English Braille and raised tactile letters * TransLink will also install tactile walking surface indicators at every bus stop TransLink says it is taking a major step toward making its service more accessible by equipping thousands of Metro Vancouver bus stops with braille signage. It says the stops will be equipped with tactile bus schedule information for people who are blind or partially sighted. Translink CEO Kevin Quinn says it’s important to take the confusion out of public transit. TransLink adding braille to bus stops Share Video Player is loading. They’d have no way to know which buses they are waiting for or if they are at the right stop,” Quinn said. The signage is being put in on bus stops across Metro Vancouver, and the project is set to be completed by the end of next year. Those who read braille will be able to find out the bus stop number, what routes service that stop, and the phone number for customer service.
