TARGET 155

Target 155 is a water efficiency program encouraging Melburnians to limit water
consumption to 155 litres per person per day.

Melbourne is the nation’s fastest growing city with Victoria’s population
predicted to almost double to reach 10 million people by 2051. Our growing city
means greater pressure on our water supplies which is why it’s important to use
water wisely so we can all enjoy its benefits now and into the future.

Melbournians have adopted a great culture of using water efficiently.
Residential water use across Melbourne was 162 litres per person per day in
2018/19. This is only one litre more than the previous 2017/18 and 2016/17
average of 161 litres per person per day despite drier conditions for much of
the year.

We each just need to use seven litres less each day - that's less than a bucket
of water. With some simple and easy behaviour changes such as shaving a minute
off the shower and watering the garden between dusk and dawn, we can all make
every drop count to reach Target 155.

To find out if you’re meeting Target 155, look for the daily water use
information on your water bill and see how it compares with the daily target of
155 litres per person.

Check out Smart Water Advice for using water wisely around your home and garden.

Target 155 is being implemented locally by each urban water corporation.
