   agoThe I-T Dept has issued notices to around 8,000 taxpayers on account of
   them making large donations to charitable trusts, which are believed to be
   attempts to evade paying tax. Tax officials say that these individuals and
   entities have made donations not commensurate with their earnings, while the
   donated amount is the exact sum required to get an exemption or lower the tax
   slab. The IT department is also looking into independent tax professionals
   who facilitated these transactions.

   Day agoIndia’s reliance on indirect taxes — levies on consumption — rather
   than direct taxes on capital is often cited by economists as the main culprit
   behind the country’s poor getting left behind even as the nation minted 70
   new millionaires each day between 2018 and 2022. Oxfam International
   estimates the top 10% of India’s population holds 77% of national wealth and
   government data show about 6% pay income tax.

   speed: RTI reply2 Days agoThe Vande Bharat Express is an electric
   multiple-unit train operated by the Indian Railways. It was designed by the
   Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO)and manufactured by the
   Integral Coach Factory (ICF), located in Chennai. The Vande Bharat trains,
   built to run at a speed of 180 kmph, have been capped at 130 kmph for
   commercial operations due to track conditions, officials said, adding that
   the trains are unable to hit even this speed limit over most stretches in the
   network.
