Worked great for lanterns but wish they were a bit smaller. But not as small as
the vintage ones. Happy I can dim my lantern. Problem I was having.. track
lights which are LED and lanterns not led were on a double wall switch Lurton
brand that would not allow the tracks to dim all the way to off. So
frustrating.FYI tracks have bulbs built into the head. Couldn’t just switch
bulbs. The same goes for LED bulbs for table lamps. So for that reason I had to
replace the switch to a LED compatible one and got a tesler switch. It only
works the tracks and had to have my electrician wire the lanterns constant. So
for you folks out there who want to switch to LED lights make sure to have your
wall switch compatible. I read a story from an electrician early in his career
had to replace like 50 incandescent to LED light bulbs for a client and realize
after all that trouble the old wall switch made the new bulbs flicker! Arrrgh! I
wish it would indicate that on the package WILL NOT WORK WITH OLDER WALL SWITCH
or And not on the direction after you’ve opened the package. Even new wall
switch.. some are not compatible with LED BULS.Sorry for the winded review, it’s
important for those who can’t afford to replace ALL the wall switches.So the new
cord dimmers saved the day. Thank you

I had a floor lamp where the old dimmer switch had gotten damp & rusted. Would
not turn and dial was lost. This was sort of easy to put on but the one wire
that went thru the switch had a different opening, the old one was off center,
while this one was center. It took a bit of fighting to get the wire in place to
screw together the two halves. While I know things are expensive, I did think
the $18 was a bit much. However, the lamp sat unused for many years as having no
way to turn on and off but with this switch, so, guess I could swallow the $18
to use the lamp again.

I loved this little jewel of a lamp-cord dimmer AFTER I finally got it
installed.....but YIKES!!! The other reviewers who said it's really hard to
install are absolutely correct. I consider myself really adept at most
electrical wiring jobs. For many decades, as a layman who is pretty
knowledgeable about electrical wiring, I've been repairing lamps and installing
various electrical devices. I have even installed some behind-the-wall
electrical circuits. And I've installed at least a dozen high/low dimmer
switches on lamp cords.
But this little baby takes the cake for difficulty. Because the one-page
instruction sheet is printed in a bazillion languages, that makes the diagram of
the routing of the wires inside the dimmer so tiny, I had to get out a
magnifying glass to see how to route the internal wiring -- and even with a
magnifier, it was extremely difficult to see the precise wiring route. And in
order to keep the dimmer this small, the manufacturer forces you to cram the
lamp cord wires so tightly inside the case, you have to use a lot of brute force
to cram the wires inside it -- being incredibly careful not to damage the
circuit board and tiny, delicate coil in the process of cramming. It took me
half an hour to do a job that should have taken less than 10 minutes. But once I
managed to get it wired, it works beautifully, and I love it.
HELPFUL TIPS: (A) I don't recommend tackling this unless, as a layman, you're
pretty proficient at wiring lamps. (B) Note that BOTH sections of the lamp cord
go on the SAME side of the case. (C) The two sections of the cord MUST go around
OPPOSITE sides of the two plastic posts at either end of the inner case, with
the post between them -- i.e. the plastic posts that hold the screws that hold
the outer case together. (D) MOST IMPORTANTLY: Because lamp cord wire can't make
sharp turns, you'll have to use some sort of blunt-end tool and use very strong
downward pressure to literally strong-arm the two sections of wire around both
sides of the plastic posts -- being very careful not to damage the delicate
circuit board and coil in the process. (E) I recommend stripping the insulation
back just a TINY FRACTION of an inch longer than the manufacturer recommends to
make it easier to twist the wires downward at a sharp right angle where they
emerge from the terminal posts -- being EXTREMELY careful not to strip so much
insulation that you increase the risk of a short-circuit. Otherwise you'll find
it difficult if not impossible to bend the insulated wire at a sharp enough
downward angle to cram all the wires inside the case. Start by stripping the
manufacturer's recommended length and then gradually increase the length of
stripping by tiny amounts until the wire easily bends downward as it emerges
from the terminals.
I strongly recommend that the manufacturer hire a top-notch technical writer to
completely rewrite the instruction sheet with a much larger and clearer wiring
diagram and much more explicit, detailed instructions such as I've provided
above. We customers shouldn't have to write their instruction manual for them..
Better yet, completely redesign this dimmer with ease of installation as the
primary aim.
But, as I said, if you survive the installation process, you'll love this neat
little device -- because it gives you an infinite range of brightness that the
simpler high/low switches don't provide..

works the tracks and had to have my electrician wire the lanterns constant. So
for you folks out there who want to switch to LED lights make sure to have your
wall switch compatible. I read a story from an electrician early in his career
had to replace like 50 incandescent to LED light bulbs for a client and realize
after all that trouble the old wall switch made the new bulbs flicker! Arrrgh! I
wish it would indicate that on the package WILL NOT WORK WITH OLDER WALL SWITCH
or And not on the direction after you’ve opened the package. Even new wall
switch.. some are not compatible with LED BULS.
Sorry for the winded review, it’s important for those who can’t afford to
replace ALL the wall switches.
So the new cord dimmers saved the day. Thank you

Yes, it works BUT (1) you must use 18/2 gauge lamp cord or you will have a very
difficult time getting the wire to fit inside. I was using 16/2 (2) it’s very,
very little working area inside the switch. (3) designed poorly, the screws that
hold the 2 sides of the switch together, which allow you to access the inside,
are mere millimeters in front of the path in which you are supposed to run the
wire- makes it difficult to close, and you run the risk of pinching the wire, or
running the screw through the wire on accident. Please redesign this Leviton

I used 16ga wire and it was near impossible to connect. I have restored
approximately 50 antique lamps and try to use Leviton products every time. This
was my first time with this switch. Rather than repeat the other comments about
how difficult it is to wire this thing, I will simply add that the entry ways
for the the wire are also too small. I get it, the case is clunky compared to
the simple on/off inline switch, but it needs to be bigger.

So, I bought a very unique floor lamp from Costco that came with a
'Edison-style' dimmable LED bulb. When the lamp was on, it was so bright I felt
like I was being questioned by the Gestapo. The lamp is sort of a high-end
steam-punk style "Industrial Pulley Floor Lamp" and this dimmer solved my
problem perfectly. The cord for the lamp is a standard brown plastic 'zip' but
it is covered with a fabric sleeve to go with the period style of the lamp.
Installing the dimmer on the cord was a piece of cake and the dimmer has a
click-stop rotary switch that lets me control the lamp completely. This dimmer
should have been on the lamp in the first place. So pleased.

Once again, despite some negative reviews, I'm happy with my purchase. It was
delivered at Amazon lightspeed and the installation was extremely simple. I
found routing the common wire on the same side as the terminal connection was
the easiest. It's kind of "old school" looking, but with the antique style
lamps, Edison bulbs and twisted fabric power cord, the look just fits in. It
works perfectly on LED bulbs. Maybe the lower power requirements and less
heating in the resistive circuit will mean "longer than I'm alive" longevity:)
I purchase one unit because of the negative reviews, but just placed an order
for another one for the matching lamp.
