DAREDEVIL NETFLIX BOX SET 1

Category: Marvel / Add Comment

Marvel’s Netflix shows ran for only four years but gained strong followings and
a mixed bag of criticisms, however, the widely accepted crown jewel of the
pantheon was Daredevil, the series that started it all that focused on the
titular Matt Murdock attempting to take down the powerful crime boss Wilson
Fisk. Daredevil tied with Jessica Jones for having the most seasons and aptly
had the most Minimate releases for any one of the shows with two box sets and an
SDCC exclusive two-pack. Here, we will examine a very rudimentary set that
focuses on the civilian aspects of the series rather than any showy costumes.

FALCON AND BARON ZEMO – MARVEL MINIMATES WALGREENS TWO PACKS (THE FALCON AND THE
WINTER SOLDIER)

Category: Marvel / Add Comment

Note: This review mentions the 2021 series, “The Falcon and Winter Soldier,” but
no spoilers for the show are written within.

In the second “The Falcon and Winter Soldier” set, we have some film adapted
figures sporting some very comic book inspired looks. Yet again, we have a
titular character paired with an antagonist, something that I’ve always found to
be important. If a set were to give me two heroes, or possibly, two versions of
the same character, I would have to go and find another set to give them a
sparring partner. Fortunately, these FAWS sets give us a full conflict within
each set.

WINTER SOLDIER & CAPTAIN AMERICA (JOHN F. WALKER) – MARVEL MINIMATES WALGREENS
TWO PACKS (THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER)

Category: Marvel / Add Comment

Note: This review mentions the 2021 series, “The Falcon and Winter Soldier,” but
no spoilers for the show are written within.

“The Falcon and Winter Soldier” is the first of the Disney/Marvel series to
receive its own Minimate wave. Each set contained a titular hero along with a
another questionable character from the series. I always personally enjoyed film
adaption figures as they brought a sense of realism that the comic based figures
couldn’t quite capture. I couldn’t be happier to see the MCU back in Minimates,
especially some recognizable characters like Captain America and the Winter
Soldier…but wait! That’s not the Winter Soldier, that’s Bucky…or the White
Wolf…or whatever he’s being called these days. Also, that’s not Captain America,
its…some guy named John?

DIAMOND COMICS STEVE GEPPI PROMOTIONAL

Category: Other / Add Comment

For a line with almost 3,000 figures, there’s not many Minimates based on real
people. Sure, there’s characters from movies, but they don’t require the actors
likeness or approval to get a release. Makes me wonder what people think when
they get action figures based on themselves. Regardless, MMC takes a trip to
Baltimore to take a look at Diamond Comics founder, Steve Geppi.

TERMINATOR 2 CYBERDYNE BOX SET

Category: Terminator 2 / Add Comment

In 2009, DST took us from the past to the future with the release of their
Terminator 2 Minimates. A line full of robots and Schwarzenegger goodness, this
was one of the first Minimate releases I bought. Back then Sarah Connor was one
of my favorite Minimates, but how does she and the gang hold up? Now in 2021,
let’s look back in time to see how these figures hold up!

GODZILLA SERIES 3 BOX SET

Category: Godzilla / Add Comment

The culmination of the Monsterverse is upon us with Godzilla vs. Kong as is the
concluding set to this series. The third set in the Godzilla series is possibly
the most lackluster, having the first repeat character outside of Godzilla
himself as well as some design flaws and a very muted overall earth tone. At
least it still brings new characters to the fold, so let’s explore the last of
the figures we got for this series.

GODZILLA SERIES 2 BOX SET

Category: Godzilla / Add Comment

The Godzilla Series continues with its second box set as we anticipate the
release of Godzilla vs. Kong later this month. My personal favorite of the three
box sets also happens to be the one with no severely altered figures, such as
Mothra, keeping to the classic Minimate style while still being part of a unique
series. This set brings us more classic monsters while still being true to the
wild Godzilla aesthetic, including his allies and enemies that all made their
first appearances in the Showa era of films, so let’s get started!

GODZILLA SERIES 1 BOX SET

Category: Godzilla / Add Comment

As the culminating film of the recently minted Monsterverse, Godzilla vs. Kong,
finally comes close to a release, let’s explore the series of classic kaiju that
made for some of the most interesting Minimates ever made. Godzilla has been a
staple of many people’s lives, having one of the longest running film franchises
of all time, starting all the way back in 1954. This series of three sets covers
the majority of heavy hitters in the Godzilla lore, so to start off this
three-part review, we have Series 1 that brings out some kaiju classics as well
as one very odd character choice for a new line.

SUITED VISION & SCARLET WITCH – SDCC CIVIL WAR TWO-PACK EXCLUSIVE

Category: Marvel / Add Comment

Note: This review mentions the 2021 series, “WandaVision,” but no spoilers for
the show are written within.

Marvel and Disney have started off 2021 by rolling out their first feature-esqe
MCU show: WandaVision! Seeing as how we most likely aren’t getting any sets
based off the series, I thought we could go back to 2016 and examine a comic con
exclusive set that included both titular heroes. This tied into the various
waves of Captain America: Civil War film based Minimates that came through the
regular wave channels as well as Toys R Us. This set gives us one character we
dearly needed as well as one that I’m still curious as to who even asked for it.

SPIDER-MAN & NEW GOBLIN – MARVEL WAVE 17 (SPIDER-MAN 3)

Category: Marvel / Add Comment

Spider-Man 3 was the end of a superhero film era. With the upcoming release of
Iron Man and The Dark Knight the year after, 2007 was the final remnants of
something I grew up loving dearly. Unfortunately, DST only got to making film
‘mates for Marvel movies once 2006 rolled around with X-Men: The Last Stand.
Both of the Spider-Man 3 waves were fantastic with some updates to Venom,
Sandman, Mary Jane and the new additions of Eddie Brock, “Evil” Peter Parker,
and, of course, the New Goblin. Harry Osborn’s arc throughout the trilogy was
the backbone of conflict for Peter, and him becoming the newest Goblin was so
exciting for ten-year-old me. As for this set, I can’t say I was disappointed.
