Olivia Wilde received legal papers from her ex-fiancé and father of her
children, Jason Sudeikis, right in the middle of her presentation about upcoming
psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling to an auditorium full of people at
CinemaCon, EW can confirm.

Before unveiling the first full trailer at the event in Las Vegas on Tuesday,
the filmmaker took the stage to deliver remarks about the "ambitious" project,
praising the performance of leading man and boyfriend Harry Styles as a
"revelation." Amidst her remarks, an unidentified woman slid the envelope —
labeled "Personal and Confidential" — onto the middle of the stage, where Wilde
retrieved it.





"This is for me?" Wilde inquired, calling it "very mysterious." She said, "I'm
going to open it now because it feels like it's a script?" Upon inspection of
the papers, Wilde nonchalantly responded, "Okay, got it. Thank you." Wilde
didn't give any indication of what the envelope contained and carried on with
her remarks. A source confirmed to EW that the envelope contained papers "to
establish jurisdiction relating to the children" from Sudeikis, but that the
actor was not aware the handoff would occur on stage in front of everyone,
calling it "inappropriate."



"Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope
would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service
company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an
inappropriate manner," the source said.

A rep from CinemaCon told EW they were not yet sure how the woman was able to
access the stage and plan to review the incident after the conference ends.





"We've never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate
has approached the stage who is not authorized to be there. In light of this
incident, we are reevaluating our security procedures to secure the safety of
all of our attendees," the rep said. "Right now we're just concentrating on as
an organization what we need to do to ensure the safety of our delegates."



EW has also reached out to reps for Wilde, Sudeikis, and Don't Worry Darling for
comment.

Wilde and Sudeikis separated in November 2020 after nearly 10 years together.
They share two children, Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5. Wilde and Styles have been
romantically linked since January 2021, after they were spotted attending a
wedding together. The two met on set of Don't Worry Darling, which also stars
Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan, Chris Pine, and Kiki Layne.



Wilde told the CinemaCon audience that the film shares similar themes to
Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show" — movies that "push the boundaries
of our imagination," she said. "I want you to imagine a life where you have
everything you could want. Not just material things… but true love and
friendship. What would it take for you to give up that perfect life? Are you
willing to dismantle the system that's designed to serve the world?"
