Hosted by Supported by Sponsors so far Summary Buildings are a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and in many states, next only to transportation. As the US economy transitions to net zero, federal, state, and city governments have set ambitious targets, and are offering incentives and programs to promote beneficial and equitable electrification of buildings. Funding programs under IIJA and incentives through IRA provided an impetus to accelerate this transition. State leaders of California, New York, Colorado, Utah, Massachusetts, Maine, etc., have already delivered notable progress. Even individual real estate investors have set emissions reduction targets and are adopting solutions to achieve those goals by phasing out the use of fossil fuels and accelerating electrification. Moreover, the increasing availability and declining costs of renewable energy sources are making it feasible to power buildings with clean electricity. Incentives and rebates are also being offered for retrofitting existing buildings with electrified systems, including heat pumps and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. While these measures are promising, equity and social justice considerations become important for the benefits of electrification to reach all communities. Moving to low-carbon and resilient buildings at scale will require careful planning of the electrical system at the property’s premises. This, in turn, is creating an urgency to assess the infrastructure required for electrifying new and existing buildings and its impact on and integration with the wider electric grid of the local utility. Policy goals, regulatory mandates, utility support, cost reductions, and technology advancements are driving the electrification of buildings. In this context, Global Transmission is organizing its launch conference on Buildings Electrification US, to be held on November 29-30, 2023 at San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront. The mission of the conference is to discuss challenges and explore solutions for electrifying buildings in an energy-efficient, cost-effective, and equitable way. The conference will bring together regulators, electric power utilities, renewable energy sellers, technology providers, real estate developers, energy management companies, and other key stakeholders to understand how the electrification of buildings can help in creating socio-economic benefits and a low-carbon future. It will provide a platform to explore opportunities, showcase technologies, discuss best practices and strategies, and build solutions for transitioning to fully electric buildings. The event offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and collaborate with experts shaping the future of buildings.
