PODIUM SUCCESS FOR TOMMY SEARLE AT MX NATIONALS FINALE

Crendon Fastrack Honda rider Tommy Searle continued his stunning run of podium
finishes by taking his CRF450R to third overall in the Michelin MX Nationals
finale on Sunday at Oxford MotoParc. Riding on a brand new track near Abingdon
in Oxfordshire, he took a pair of third-place finishes.

With the MX Nationals championship already won by Harri Kullas at the last round
where Searle was too ill to race, the 33-year-old Brit rode two consistent motos
as he prepared for this Sunday’s Revo ACU British Motocross Championship final
where he holds a strong points lead.

In the first moto at the fast and spectacular Oxford MotoParc track, Searle came
out of the first corner in second place but was demoted as Conrad Mewse and
Martin Barr slipped by on the first lap. Searle retaliated and fought his way
past Barr but by then the leading duo had pulled away so the Honda man took a
sensible third.

The second time out and Searle didn’t get the best jump off the line but quickly
got into third place inside the opening lap.

He kept Josh Gilbert at bay to hold onto third for third overall, and despite
missing a round, that was enough to seal fourth in the championship for Searle.

"I felt okay but struggled a bit to set up the bike, as this is a real GP-style
track that we don’t normally ride on in the UK, with some big jumps and hard
hits," Searle said. "It made the track a bit tricky so didn’t want to take too
many risks – I was just doing what I needed to do. I was looking after myself as
I have the British championship final next week then the Motocross of Nations at
RedBud for Team GB.

"But it was so nice the guys put on an event at a new track like this which is a
credit to them. I definitely want to come back and race here again."

(Image: Adam Duckworth)

A surprise late entrant to the event was Jake Nicholls, who officially retired
from full-time professional racing mid-way through this season after getting
injured. Riding a stock CRF250R with just an aftermarket exhaust on it,
Nicholls’ bike sported the all-black livery that the new Tru7 Honda Racing
Academy team will use in 2023. He will run the team in conjunction with Crendon
Fastrack Honda’s team boss Dave Thorpe, and was having a ride just for fun.

"I raced the Vets Nations at Foxhill last week and got the buzz for racing
again,” said Nicholls. “I’m not training like I was before and I wasn’t worried
about where I came. I came to have a bit of fun.

"I had a steady start but got better as the day went on. In the first race, I
was eighth then in the second I changed my suspension and had a better start.
And the track got more technical which suits me. I had a blinder and got third!
I’ll do some more MX2 races next year too.”

Crendon Fastrack Honda team manager, triple world 500 champion Dave Thorpe,
said: “I have to say congratulations and well done to everyone involved with
this brand new circuit which is just incredible. It’s always exciting when a new
track comes onto the calendar and this new Oxford MotoParc is a real stunner.
The amount of work everyone has put in to create a top-class track is amazing.

"For our team, Tommy had a couple of solid rides without taking any unnecessary
risks to make sure he came away unscathed. All our focus is on the last round of
the British championship next week at Landrake.

"And it was really great to see Jake riding again, just for the love of racing.
It’s testament to his skills and how good a stock Honda CRF250R is that he took
a third place, too."

HARRI KULLAS HOLDS OFF CONRAD MEWSE AT MX NATIONALS FINALE

Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha's Harri Kullas entered the final round of the
Michelin MX Nationals series as 2022 MX1 Pro champion at the all-new Oxford
MotoParc circuit.

The new circuit on military land was looking fantastic as Kullas qualified
second fastest and then got the holeshot in race one, from Conrad Mewse and
Tommy Searle. Mewse made his way past on lap six with Kullas pushing him all the
way to the end but not close enough to pass back.

Race two was another blistering holeshot, but this time Kullas turned up the
heat and pulled away from Mewse in second and Searle in third, winning by over
10 seconds. His 2-1 scorecard gave him the tie-break for the overall victory.

Harri Kullas: “I had no pressure coming into the final round as I’d won the
title with a round to spare, but as always I try to ride my best and give 100
per cent.

“Conrad had really good pace today. In race one he passed me on lap six as he
was faster on one part of the track, but by the time I changed my lines, it was
too late.

“In the second race I had another holeshot but this time managed to pull a
second per lap and get away from Conrad. It was awesome to ride a new track
which was prepared really well.”

2022 FIM Motocross World Championship.

TOM VIALLE WINS 2022 MX2 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT MXGP OF TURKEY

KTM have won their 14th MX2 world championship since 2004 after Red Bull KTM
Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle finished first overall in the 18th and final round
of the 2022 MXGP series at Afyonkarashisar in Turkey.

MXGP wrapped 2022 in the hot and hard-pack climes of Afyonkarashisar and the
Grand Prix of Turkey. All eyes were set on the duel for the MX2 title between
Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts with the Belgian holding a very narrow two-point lead
at the top of the standings. Vialle, who had triumphed at both back-to-back
Turkish rounds in 2021, won Saturday’s Qualification Heat to head to the start
gate first on Sunday.

 * Vialle goes 1-1 in high-pressure title showdown for his 17th moto win from
36, 10 Grands Prix from 18 and 15th podium appearance of the season
 * Red Bull KTM Factory Racing celebrate first world title with 2023 generation
of the legendary KTM 250 SX-F
 * Vialle claims his second world title in just four years in the MX2 class by
four points after defeating main rival Jago Geerts and having trailed the
Belgian in the standings coming to Turkey
 * Red Bull KTM have won the MXGP and/or the MX2 world championship every season
bar one since 2010. Vialle signs off his MX2 GP career with his 24th overall
   victory.

In the first moto the Frenchman made an ideal start from Pole Position to seize
the holeshot. He had a three-second margin by the end of the second lap and rode
unchallenged to the checkered flag as Geerts placed 10 seconds adrift. Vialle
was now fronting the championship by one point. In the second start Geerts made
the better getaway but Vialle attacked and was seeing a clear track by the
second circulation. The rivals battled and even tangled but it was Vialle who
recovered and reached the finish line first to begin the celebrations. He is the
fourth Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider in the MX2 era to have taken more than
one FIM title on the KTM 250 SX-F and the second Frenchman to do so.

(Image: Ray Archer)

The result and the accomplishment was the ideal way to end his MX2 term and the
21-year-old can now think ahead to his challenge in 2023 AMA Supercross and
Motocross 250MX/SX competition.

DIGA Procross KTM’s Liam Everts ended his rookie season in the world
championship with a 6-12 scorecard in Turkey and 10th in the MX2 standings. The
Belgian entered the top five on at least two occasions and will draft into the
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing structure for the 2023 campaign.

The 2022 calendar will reach a conclusion with the 75th Motocross of Nations at
RedBud in the USA in two weeks.

“I’m so happy," said Vialle. “To finish the season like this is so nice.

“I felt good today even if the track was a bit sketchy. When I had the tip-over
in the second moto I thought ‘oh, it’s over’ but then I saw Jago had gone down
as well so I got up as quickly as I could. We were riding so fast. I won some
time. It was really crazy and I was lucky but that’s part of the game.

“This is my final race in MX2 so it was special. I wanted to enjoy the last few
races and with the team, who have given me such a strong home for four seasons.
To have the title for the second time is amazing. The first one was crazy but
also this one because it was so tight. I had to come here and go 1-1 but that
wasn’t so easy.”

Tom Vialle (Image: Ray Archer)

Joel Smets, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “What a day, what a year,
what a championship. I don’t think I have ever felt stress like that in any
season, even in my own racing career. We’ve been in close situations before but
we knew it would all go down to some very tight action today and Tom was able to
deliver. I’m so grateful to everybody behind us and I like to think that
somewhere and somehow Rene was looking down and enjoying that one.”

Dirk Gruebel, Red Bull KTM Team Technical Co-ordinator: “Unbelievable today and
it is unreal what Tom managed. The mindset was there in qualification but what a
difficult situation. He won the first moto but of course it would go down to the
second and both riders rode so fast. It was such a strong pace and they went
over the limit. Then we had a gap and that was a turning point. Even though Jago
did not give up it seemed like Tom just wanted it a bit more. A real drama today
but we walked away as the winners and I’m happy for Tom and the whole team after
a difficult season. We were always chasing so to take the title is something
special.”

Robert Jonas, Head of Motorsports Offroad: “We faced logistic and sporting
obstacles for 2022 and the shortest off-season we can remember and to finish the
championship in this way – with another title for our superb team and the talent
of Tom Vialle – is the best payback. All the credit must go to the entire Red
Bull KTM Factory Racing team who never gave up and kept pushing and working and
developing and with one goal in mind. A brilliant effort and it is something the
whole factory can be proud of.”

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director: “I’m extremely happy right now because it
has been a challenging season for us in MXGP and how we went into 2022 was
especially tough. Tom had to peg back a big points gap and to be able to take it
to the last race on the last day and then win is an incredible achievement. I
want to thank the whole team and everybody in the factory who has built this
fantastic motorcycle and of course to Tom who has done an outstanding job. He is
a real world champion and I feel he is ready to go to the USA. It was a
masterpiece to deliver those two wins today under such big pressure. Not many
people can do that.”

YAMAHA SECURES THIRD CONSECUTIVE MX2 MANUFACTURER'S WORLD TITLE AS GEERTS FALLS
SHORT IN TURKEY

Jago Geerts fell agonisingly short of winning his first FIM Motocross World
Championship title at the MXGP of Turkey. However, his series points total with
team-mate Thibault Benistant helped Yamaha secure a third consecutive MX2
Manufacturer’s world title.

Geerts arrived in Afyonkarahisar as the MX2 red plate holder with a slender
two-point advantage over his only remaining rival Tom Vialle.

Starting from P2, Geerts narrowly missed the jump in the opening race of the day
and was squeezed going into turn one. The #93 barged his way into the top-five
and, soon after, into second before falling on lap 10.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 ace made a quick remount and charged hard
to the flag but lost too much time in the incident to challenge the race leader,
Vialle, and had to settle for second.

Vialle and Geerts were again battling at the tip of the MX2 field in race two.
The maths were simple, whoever won the moto would take the MX2 championship
crown.

Sadly for Geerts, a mistake from Red Bull KTM's Vialle left the closely
following Belgian nowhere to go. Geerts ploughed into the #28 bike and was
thrown over the handlebars. Vialle was able to remount first and Geerts'
championship hopes were gone.

"Honestly, I’m very disappointed," said Geerts. "I really can’t believe my luck.

"I felt good on the track today and gave everything. In the first race, I missed
the start a little bit and then had a little crash, but still finished second.

"In the second race, I was just really unlucky with Tom crashing right in front
of me and I could not avoid his bike. It cost me a lot of time, and then I had
to push so hard to come back that I fell again, and from there it was game
over."

This season, the Hans Corvers-led Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team
celebrated an incredible 25 years in blue. Thanks to the efforts of its two
riders, Geerts and Benistant, the team celebrated nine pole positions, 16 race
wins, and 22 podium finishes, seven of which were Grand Prix victories. Both
riders ended the season inside the top five, with Geerts taking his third
consecutive silver medal and Benistant finishing fifth. As a result, Yamaha has
retained the Manufacturer’s world title for a third straight season.

Thibault Benistant: "There were some positive points and negative points this
weekend. I felt good in Qualifying but had a bad start in the first race today.
I stretched my injured shoulder, and this made the races difficult. I just had
to ride through the pain. I worked really hard with Yamaha’s physio to have it
as strong as possible this weekend. We did what we could, but it was not enough
to take away the pain.

"In the end, this was the last GP of the year and I managed to take some
positive points, so now I just look forward to recovering and coming back strong
next year."

While disappointment for Geerts will take some of the shine off the MX2
Manufacturer’s world title, the team are in a strong position heading into the
2023 season. Geerts – in his final MX2 season – and Benistant will be joined by
the EMX250 champion Rick Elzinga next year and will be one of the hot favourites
for silverware.

ELI TOMAC 2022 450 CHAMPION AT PALA PRO MOTOCROSS

Eli Tomac won the 2022 AMA Pro Motocross 450MX Championship today in Pala,
California, at the Fox Raceway National, sealing it with a double moto win.

It was a tense, nail-biting end to the season with Tomac just one point ahead of
450MX title rival Chase Sexton as the AMA Pro Motocross Championship arrived at
the scorching hot Pala circuit.

Tomac topped the timing sheets to take pole and followed that up with a moto one
win to extend his championship lead. That win left Sexton needing to win the
second race and hope that at least one rider would get between him and Tomac.

The start of the second race opened the door wide open for Sexton as Tomac got a
poor jump out of the gate, taking the first few corners in ninth place.
Meanwhile, ahead of him Sexton quickly moved from seventh to third.

The drama ramped up when Sexton appeared to glance over at Tomac and then folded
the bike – the crash from Sexton was small and at any other time in the season
may not have stung so hard. But this was oh-so damaging.

For Sexton, that was the first of three crashes as he pushed beyond the limits
in an attempt to catch Tomac.

While Sexton was down in eighth, Tomac had made his way to fourth, passing Benny
Bloss and Justin Barcia, leaving team-mate Christian Craig and Jason Anderson
ahead.

Craig didn't put up a fight but Anderson did his best to hold off the red plate
holder, but when he hit neutral it gave Tomac the lead. Although Sexton never
gave up and clawed his way back to second, it was not his year – Tomac was the
450MX champion for a fourth time.

In his first year with Yamaha Star Racing, Tomac has done an impressive double,
winning AMA 450SX and 450MX titles, which included seven wins in Supercross and
five in Pro Motocross, with four of those on the bounce from round four at High
Point.

Tomac cements his legacy as only the second rider in history to win four AMA 450
motocross titles; only topped by the GOAT Ricky Carmichael. And this is Yamaha
Star racing's second consecutive 450MX title following Dylan Ferrandis'
championship win in 2021.

"It's been the most enjoyable year, by far, of my career," said Tomac. "I just
had so much fun doing it – it started with Supercross, now with motocross.

"The competition was just unbelievable too from Chase [Sexton]. He is the next
450 guy, hands down. We pushed ourselves to the limit and we even raised the bar
this year.

"Thank you to my team, Monster Energy, Yamaha; we've done so much work, as does
everyone else – this is just a very enjoyable moment, and this is the cherry on
top."

Eli has previously announced this will be his last season in AMA Pro Motocross
but intends to defend his AMA Supercross title in 2023.
