I tried to select the method I considered would be most accurate. I decided on
the gas syringe method because, as I explained in my section on preliminary
work, it measured the volume of gas directly and minimised the volume of oxygen
which could potentially dissolve in water. However, some oxygen was displaced in
the gas syringe and I had to solve this by subtracting this small amount from
the volumes produced in each of the reactions. Also, I noticed if the barrel was
wet, the syringe often got stuck for a short time before it recorded the volumes
of gas.

EFFECT OF SUBSTRATE CONCENTRATION ON THE RATE OF ACTIVITY OF CATALASE

To prevent this I had to dry out the barrel and syringe before commencing the
procedure. It was very hard to insert the small 5cm 3 beaker into the conical
flask, and when it came to tipping it over, some of the substrate was still
trapped inside the beaker. I solved this by swirling the conical flask
constantly throughout the reactions, which seemed to solve the problem, although
this meant that the amount of swirling had to be the same in order to ensure a
fair test.

QUESTIONS ABOUT REQUIRED SCIENCE COURSEWORK

Dependent Variable The dependent variable the one I intend to measure is the
volume of gas produced in each reaction. Consistent Temperature Temperature is a
major factor which affects the rate of reaction. Log in. HubPages and Hubbers

the design? Place a conical flask on the balance, and set the balance to 0, so
that you can weigh the yeast. I will investigate if this is true for this
reaction. Note: Use a pipette rather than a conical flask or a measuring
cylinder because pipettes are very accurate for measuring volumes. The new

This meant that there were less successful collisions overall see Fig. Daeth yn

I tried to keep this constant by making sure I swirled the conical flask evenly.
The accuracy of the results showed that this factor did not distort the results
too much, and so a similar amount of substrate molecules were present in each
reaction. Another factor which was hard to measure was the volume of gas
produced, because some of the higher concentration reactions were very fast, so
it was hard to read the correct values every time. I tried to make this as
accurate as possible by keeping my eyes level with the gas syringe.

Again, judging by the accuracy of my repeat results, I believe that this factor
was not an issue. Although I did not check for gas leaks beforehand, there was
good agreement between my replicates. If my replicates had not been so close I
would have had to change the tube.

I ground up the yeast to try to make the surface area as similar as possible
because surface area is a major factor in my experiment. A larger surface area
means there are more molecules being exposed to collisions with other molecules,
with sufficient energy to cause a reaction.

This means that having the same surface area of yeast in each reaction is very
important in ensuring a fair test because the number of molecules exposed to
collisions must be the same. Temperature is a major factor which affects the
rate of reaction. This is because at higher temperatures, molecules of both
enzyme and substrate have more kinetic energy and collide more often.

This results in a bigger proportion of molecules having a kinetic energy greater
than that of the activation energy. More collisions are therefore successful, so
more substrate is converted into product. The reaction is exothermic, meaning
heat is produced in the reaction. The higher the concentration, the more heat
will be produced.

HOW TO WRITE A GOOD BIOLOGY LAB REPORT. - BIOLOGY AND ESS - IB SURVIVAL

This is because the molecules of both substrate and enzyme have more energy,
therefore they collide more often and produce more heat energy. This heat energy
is transferred to the environment. Although I tried to control the temperature
in a water bath, and to good effect a constant external temperature was produced
and the heat energy was dissipated , I could not control the amount of heat
given off in each reaction.

This could have affected my results for several reasons. Firstly, more oxygen
dissolves in water at low temperatures than at high temperatures, meaning that
for the reactions involving low concentrations, more oxygen would have dissolved
than in the higher concentrations because of the decreased amount of heat energy
given off. Because the volume of oxygen dissolved in the reaction is not
constant for all reactions, and less oxygen is dissolved in water at higher
temperatures, this would have affected my results.

This may have been why the difference in the final volume of oxygen produced was
not equal, but instead decreased in steps of 3. The different concentrations of
hydrogen peroxide that I made could not have been exactly accurate because this
would have meant that the volume of gas evolved would have increased in equal
steps, which it did not. As I have mentioned earlier, this decreases in steps of
3. This may have been because I only used a pipette when measuring the hydrogen
peroxide, and poured the water into the volumetric flask to make up the rest of
the cm 3.

I believed this was accurate, but upon reflection, using a pipette would have
been much more accurate as pipettes have a much lower apparatus error than
volumetric flasks. I also had to make sure I washed out the conical flask and
beaker thoroughly with distilled water and dried them sufficiently. This would
have affected the number of molecules of hydrogen peroxide present, which in
turn would have affected the number of collisions between enzyme and substrate
molecules.

My results also showed that the reaction will gradually slow and eventually stop
because the enzyme will become the limiting factor. This is shown when oxygen
stops being produced and the same results are recorded five times. However, I
also believed that if I halved the concentration then the rate of reaction
volume of oxygen produced would also be halved, and so the rate would be
proportional to the concentration. This would show that the reaction is a first
order reaction.

Though in theory, this should be the trend, my results did not demonstrate this
pattern. So, although my results did show a positive correlation, it wasn't
necessarily an accurate correlation because my results do not follow specific
trends. If the line of best fit is correct, it would make this value an anomaly,
which clearly it is not since it is the most accurate value on the graph. I will
use exactly the same method as I did previously, and since I still have some
yeast left, I can still use the same batch of yeast.

I will then work out the gradient of the two concentrations and plot them on a
rate of reaction graph along with the other concentrations. Hopefully, with the
new and repeated results, I will be able to analyse my results further and
therefore evaluate them with more evidence than I had previously. I will work
out the gradient of these new results and plot them on a new rate of reaction
graph. This should tell me whether the reaction is indeed a first-order
reaction, or if a curve of best fit is required.

Draw a new graph.

INTRODUCTION

Now that I have carried out the repeats and plotted the points on the rate of
reaction graph, I can see that the graph is in fact clearly linear. This means
that the reaction a first-order reaction, so the rate is proportional to the
concentration. I believe that the data also shows strong positive correlation,
and there are few outliers, which shows that my results are accurate. I have
drawn a line of best fit to clearly illustrate this trend. The line of best fit
also suggests values of concentrations which I have not investigated. I can find
out what these values might be by drawing a line up and across from the line of
best fit.

Overall, there is a pattern showing a constant trend in that as the
concentration decreases the rate of reaction decreases too, and that the overall
volume of gas evolved also decreases. This is because at higher concentration
there are more molecules of substrate, so more collisions take place, resulting
in more enzyme-substrate complexes being formed. Apparatus error was one of the
main factors in my experiment which I tried to keep at a minimum.

I did this by only using pipettes, which have a very small apparatus error when
compared to beakers. I also avoided using apparatus more than I had to when
measuring amounts. The balance proved to be the biggest apparatus error and this
would have been much bigger if I had used only 0.

The artistic works can treat some problems and face the society with it. For an
example, Khaled Hosseini on his novel The Kite Runner, explains some themes from

CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF ' THE KITE RUNNER '

No two individuals are exactly alike in every way who share the same opinions,
tastes, thoughts, ideas, or feelings. Which is quite fortunate, because it would
be a complete bore if everyone acted completely identical to one another. So,
what is it that makes us abhor another based on their uniqueness as an
individual or as a group It features events that bring tears to the eyes of its
readers, as well as a look into the world outside our own.

This book deals with tragic adult themes such as racism and child rape. The
story takes place in two different countries, Afghanistan, and later the United
States.

The Kite Runner Ideas and Themes Review

I remembered, my one of the friend read this book last year and told me little
bit about Afghanistan and a man It is an attribute people from young children to
elders, poor to wealthy and those of different social classes or races
demonstrate. Bravery is present in various ways through small and large
situations. Bravery stands out as the most significant characteristic in this
novel During this book, there exist two main characters——Amir and Hassan. The
story is happened in Afghanistan. Amir and Hassan always played together from
childhood but after one kite competition, when Hassan helps pick the last kite
and met three older bad boys, their friendship, or a inexpressible relationship,
was broken Throughout the novel Amir always had a sense of guilt.

The guilt played a very important role in how Amir was characterized and how his
personality changed towards everyone. Throughout the novel Amir was consistently
trying to find redemption through various ways, he felt like the assault was his
fault and he wanted to get punished so it would end his guilt Amir felt constant
guilt his whole life from the way he treated Hassan and after he overheard Baba
talking to Rahim Khan about how he never stands up for himself. Amir tried to
find redemption his entire life, but did not succeed until he went back to Kabul
to find Sohrab.

Amir cowardice caused him to live a guilty life, but in the end it led to true
redemption The main character in the story is named Amir, and he is also the
narrator. Amir lives in Kabul, Afghanistan with his father who he calls Baba.
Baba is a wealthy, and well respected man in Afghanistan. They both live in a
mansion house that Baba built and designed himself. In Afghanistan there are two
different types of people; there are pashtuns which are the more wealthy ones
and more privileged The novel also focuses around the theme of a broken
relationship between father and son as well as facing difficult situations from
ones past.

ESSAY ON FOUR THEMES IN THE KITE RUNNER BY KHALED HOSSEINI

Amir and Hassan are best friends with two completely different personalities.
Each character in the novel faces their own hardships and eventually learns to
overcome those difficulties. Beginning with betrayal then the characters have to
make their way to gaining redemption and forgiveness from others, as well as
their self, is carried on throughout the novel There is no act more wretched
than stealing. By doing so, the sin becomes overwhelming. He continues to act
selfishly until he discovers the rewarding effects of selflessness.

Even as The Kite Runner is written as a work of historical fiction and Oedipus
Rex develops a well known and praised Greek tragedy, a theme of betrayal places
itself throughout both. Literature demonstrates that morals can genuinely be
learned through any method. In both.

One particular theme that is present throughout both of these written pieces is
love. Defined by the Oxford Dictionary, love is a strong positive emotion of
regard and affection. In The Kite Runner and The Crucible, one can see the
similarities of love through friendship, paternal.

What is the Theme of The Kite Runner? The two main characters seem to be
exceedingly similar, as they are one year apart in age, have the common
interests, and enjoy spending time together, growing up inseparably despite the
differences in social status Graves. Though Amir and Hassan seem to be very
similar, their divisions in Afghan society make a significant impact on their
daily lives.

Thus, life was never the same for any of them. Terror, invasion, and revolution
changed Kabul forever, leading to changes in the lives of both main characters
Graves. The novel symbolically begins and ends in San Francisco.

by Khaled Hosseini and published in It tells the story of Amir, a young boy from
Kabul, Afghanistan, and Hassan, his father’s Hazara servant. Early on, Amir
strives to redeem himself through his father’s eyes primarily because his mother
died.

At the very beginning of the story, Amir appears as an educated citizen, writer,
and family man living with his wife in San Francisco. His boyhood in Afghanistan
seems to be too far from his contemporary living. However, the only one phone
call makes Amir recall his memories of childhood in Kabul, relations with
Hassan, and the life-changing events that were the reason for this phone call
Stuhr In this particular part of the novel, Amir describes Kabul where children
can roam the fields and streets with no fear of landmines, where movies are
attended, and kites are flown Stuhr Amir had such memories because he had a life
full of material comforts, unlike Hassan, who suffered, being a minority group
member.

In particular, Amir is Pashtun and Sunni, the representative of the dominant
religious sect and ethnicity.

The experiential training process does not identify, by default, the correct set

The more complex the process is, the bigger is the potential for making

conventional thought processes and the status quo will be challenged as
companies are still striving for efficiency improvements that have leveled off

because they are the most experienced and usually the most skilled people
working in a manufacturing plant, and the knowledge base is about to leave with
them tribal knowledge research papers they retire.

Many times, tribal knowledge can be a hindrance to improvements, because the
person with the tribal knowledge remembers all of the prior attempted
improvements that didn't work. We often pass off a re-hash of an old idea that
didn't work out, despite the fact that the technology available to implement
that idea may have drastically changed for the better since the last time the
idea was tried.

Now, mind you, that doesn't mean that we need to re-hash ideas that truly don't
make sense, but ones where the data and technology available might make the idea
more realistic. I think as we get older and gain experience, we often don't want
to relive past pains of lessons learned. We somehow have to balance our
experience with what is viable and realistic. Again, I say "We" as I have been
guilty of passing off a young engineer's ideas without any study. I think that
this is a dangerous behavior in this very competitive world.

I have often observed tribal knowledge in silos as well. The operator has a
certain tribal knowledge of how a process operates. The process and automation
engineer often has a different set of tribal knowledge and perspective. Often,
this tribal knowledge can lead to blind spots. The process may have plenty of
designed capacity, but because of the way the automation engineer has the
operator interact with the process controls, the designed output may not be
reached. On the flip side, the operator may ask for things that physically are
impossible because of a lack of domain knowledge on the process side.

Often, a manufacturing intelligence system can be where the two entities have
common ground and can begin to understand the true root cause of an issue in the
process. Brian and Tim even remarked light heartedly about a bit of finger
pointing between engineering and operations this was not mean spirited finger
pointing, but just shows how human nature seems to lead all of us to look
elsewhere for blame to a problem first.

TRIBAL COLLEGE RESEARCH CONFERENCE EXPLORES THE ROLE OF INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE IN
EDUCATION

As an example, the operations team first seemed to think that there wasn't
enough glycol being delivered, and engineering felt that the glycol system was
designed with enough capacity. It turns out that glycol delivery was certainly
not an issue, but both sides were pointing fingers a bit until they both had the
data in front of them.
