Migro wifi contactor

Buy
Migro for 240 volt
Migro for 120 volt
All in one: indoor-outdoor enclosure, contactor, Sonoff wifi module, antenna.

Connect incoming wires to same side of contactor as Sonoff is connected.
Connect load wires to opposite side of contactor.

Use phone etc to turn load on-off. Your privacy is compromised when using wifi,
and they control the product, and information coming from it.

Migro comes with 2-pole contactor rated for 40 amp loads, contactor size about
3" x 2.6".
The Migro contactor is not rated for 50 amp loads .... 50 amp contactors are
3-pole with minimum size 4"x3"

Enclosure must be mounted to structure using screws etc. Cannot be mounted to
unsupported siding, sheetrock etc without proper anchoring.
Wires must be secured to structure. Extension cord is rated 300 volt and not
approved for permanent electrical wiring.
Use only 600 volt electrical wire as printed on side of wire. Solid copper is
best for heavy amp loads.
Stranded wire can splay apart and come loose over time.

WiFi vs Zwave

Wi-fi and zwave are different automation protocols. Z-Wave® Sigma Designs.

Wifi bandwidth allows quick transmission of data, with more broadcast distance
assuming all devices can reach router, and maybe wider functionality than zwave.
Wifi has privacy issues, and devices from different companies require different
app.

Zwave works with phone or other device via in-home hub.
Open-source zwave has been standard for decades.
Zwave devices from any manufacturer will interoperate with each other, so
it's one system.

Each device can pass signal to next device, creating array of paths for signal.
Zwave has some battery operated devices that can be placed anywhere and will
boost signal distance.
Depending on structure and placement of devices, Zwave might have more reliable
operation with greater broadcast distance.
Depending on phone, voice activation etc, Zwave might offer more privacy since
information packets are tiny compared with Wifi.

Timer on wall controls water heater
24 hour mechanical dial timer controls a contactor that turns water heater
on-off.
Timer fits into ordinary wall box used for switches, outlets etc.
For home automation, substitute a wifi or zwave switch for timer.

Hot water is scheduled using timer, which saves money each month, especially in
homes with peak pricing.
Reducing consumption is key for saving the most money and energy.

Neutral required:
Installing wall-mounted timer or home automation plan draws Black Hot and White
Neutral from any nearby outlet box.
Applies to all 120 volt programmable timers, countdown, wifi and zwave home
automation devices.

Rule of thumb: Neutral wires are white and usually covered with wire nut and
pushed to back of box.

Which boxes have a Hot and Neutral available? An outlet will always have Hot and
Neutral. A switch box will always have Hot but not always Neutral. A ceiling box
with light will always have Neutral but might only have Hot when light is on.
Modern wiring code requires each box inside a new house to have both Hot and
Neutral. Local codes vary.
Some timers do not require a Neutral wire, but typically all wifi and zwave
devices require a Neutral.

If you do not have 120 volt available, then use ST01 battery-operated timer.

If you only have 240 volt available, but not 120 volt, then you can step the 240
volt down to 120 volt using either encapsulated transformer or industrial
transformer.
